White Teeth

This morning we officially squeezed the very last pearl of toothpaste out of the tube. Luckily, it took exactly a minute to whip up this easy formula found at Pioneer Thinking.

6 tsp baking soda
1/3 tsp salt
4 tsp vegetable glycerin
15 drops essential oil such as peppermint, wintergreen, or anise.

Mix, brush, and spit!

Update: Hmmm, it's kind of salty when you brush but the minty aftertaste is refreshing. Feels clean and polished too. I guess you can't go wrong with baking soda--same as I use for cleaning my sinks!

What kind kind of a container did you end up storing it in?

We're storing it in a small glass container outside of the bathroom. To scoop it on the brush, we use one of Ezra's tiny spoons and just replace it every day. Not the most convenient, but the consistency is too thick for anything else.

Additional benefit besides saving money is that you won't be getting fluoride in your mouths anymore, at least not from the toothpastes. The jury is still out on just how toxic fluoride is but it is known that it is toxic. So good for you.
